The First Chinese Characters Writing Competition Successfully Held Abroad in Confucius Institute in Bratislava.

 

The city of Bratislava, with flowers spreading their fragrance around in the spring time, is full of vigor. On April 28, Chinese Characters Writing Competition was successfully held in Confucius Institute in Bratislava.

The purpose to hold this competition was to let Slovak people know more about Chinese Language and Chinese Culture, to raise their interest and to reduce their barriers in learning Chinese language. There were 3 kinds of prizes set up in the competition: the first prize for 3 people, the second prize for 6 people, and the third prize for 12 people. 

The 40 competitors, coming from different areas, did not only include students from Confucius Institute, but also from primary school, middle school, other universities' students and few companies' workers. All of them were full of enthusiasm and excitement to participate in this kind of competition. At 2:30 pm, Mr Peter Paulen, the director of Confucius Institute in Bratislava, delivered a speech. He warmly encouraged all the competitors and expressed his hope that they would be successful in the competition. During the whole competition, H. E. Mr. Gu Ziping, the Chinese Ambassador in the Slovak Republic, watched over the whole process of the competition and presented prizes to students at the end.

         In the short break during the competition, competitors showed big interest in watching the video introducing famous landscape sights of China. At 4 pm, the results of the competition were revealed. Professor Ding Shude, the Chinese director of Confucius Institute, announced the results, and the winners received their prizes and gifts. Prizes were presented accompanied by the Chinese traditional music Jasmine Flower. Afterwards, the Chinese Ambassador Mr. Gu Zipping and Prof. Ding Shude distributed the prizes and the certificates. At the end, the Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Gu Ziping, delivered a passionate speech. He said that the Chinese Characters Writing Competition was held very successful and he hoped Confucius Institute would continually hold the competition in the coming years to deepen the understanding of Slovak people of Chinese culture.

The competition was carefully planned and organized by Confucius Institute in Bratislava. This is the first time for such a competition to be held abroad by a Confucius Institute. Chinese Director, Professor Ding Shude promised that the institute would continue in this activity and hold the competiton every year in a much larger scale, thus enlarging the influence of Confucius Institute in Slovakia.
